Arklow CBS news for week ending 10.11.2023
Athletics success
Well done and congratulations to third year student Scott Hannon and to TY student Owen Gibbons who have both qualified to represent and run for Leinster at the National Cross Country Championships in Gowran, Kilkenny on Sunday 19th November. Scott will run as part of the U16 Leinster team and Owen the U18 Leinster team. Both boys are members of Parnell Athletics Club. This is a serious achievement for both boys and is testament to the continued hard work and training that they both put in.
Basketball News
Unfortunately, the journey has ended in the South East regional competition at the quarter final stage for our U16sboys. They were beaten by a very well rounded and tall Meanscoil Gharman team. The final score was 44-28 and while CBS Arklow played some good basketball throughout it wasn’t until the final quarter that they were able to get the ball into the net, scoring half of their total points of the game in the last quarter. While the result didn’t go their way, the heart, effort and determination to not give up until the very end shows the character of thrse boys which will stand them well inside and outside the school.
Scorers on the day for the CBS were: Sean Kelly (9 points), Cillian Mc Donald (8 points), Kyal Byrne (5 points), Philip Michta (4 points), Seán Plowman (2 points)
Soccer News
Hard luck to our U15 soccer team on coming up short this week against a strong Wexford CBS team.in the Wicklow-Wexford League. Arklow CBS took the lead early on with a Lucas Reid goal provided by Odhrán Cullen’s corner kick. Unfortunately, however Wexford CBS proved too strong and they ran out winners in the end. Onwards and upwards to the next match lads.
6th Year Geography Field Trip
Out 6th Year Geography students headed off on their Geographical Investigation to Kippure Estate to complete their river study. This study will be followed up with a written report that is worth a potential 20% of their Leaving Certificate grade. An enjoyable day was had by all and the students were commended on their work ethic and behaviour so well done to all involved. Thank you to Ms. A Kinsella and Ms. Mitchell for accompanying the lads on the day.
TY bonding Trip
Our Transition Years enjoyed a fun filled day out in Dublin this week. The first “hop” was at Jump Zone in Sandyford followed by a tour of GAA headquarters, Croke Park. The students finished off the trip with a stop off at Liffey Valley. A great day was had by all and a big thank you to Ms. Dunne, Ms. Domican and Ms. Ryan for accompanying the students.

The also headed to Jump Zone with their Year Head Ms.Kinsella and teachers Mr.Fanning, Ms. Byrne and Pauline. The students had a fantastic time and burnt off lots of energy. They stopped off in Dundrum town centre before heading home after a fantastic fun filled day.
