MFL day p1.jpg MFL day p2.jpg

Tuesday the 26th September saw Arklow CBS celebrate European Day of Languages. This is an annual event to highlight and celebrate the importance of languages as a communication tool and as an enhancement to employment and cultural opportunities in the future. Students had a fun filled day with lots of music, quizzes and where they were treated to cuisine from France, Germany, Poland and Spain. A special word of thanks to our Spanish TY students who cooked some beautiful Spanish omelettes/tortillas.

Basketball news

Basketball 22 sept v Glenart p1.jpg Basketball 22 sept v Glenart p2.jpg

Our u19 and u16 basketball squads had their first outing in the league against near neighbours Glenart College. Both teams made the short walk up the road and came out with comfortable victories that will give them confidence going into the coming fixtures.

The U19s were up first and the whole squad got an opportunity to put down markers for their places on the team going forward. After a good team performance scorers for CBS on the day were MVP Sean O’Connor with 10, Sergiy Kulachenko with 4 points, Jeddy Osuji with 8, Tom Kavanagh with 4, Ben Manning with 8, Daniel O’Donovan with 6 points and Adam O’Leary, Ruzzel Degolado and Josh Dodson Smith with 2 each. A great spread of scorers shows lots of potential going forward.

The U16s took to the court next and looked to emulate their senior counterparts and did even better, putting in a great team performance with some outstanding displays across the board. They will have tougher games ahead but this was a fantastic confidence builder and a great opportunity for many of the team to get their first game in nearly two years. Scorers on the day were MVP Sean Plowman with 10 Darragh Kinch with 7 points, Abraham Lamanga Ciaran Redmond and Cillian McDonald with 6, Philip Michta with a 3 pointer, Sean Kelly with 4, and Evan Whelan and Kyal Byrne with 2. It was nice to come out on top in the local derby to hopefully set up for success as the league continues.

TY Podcast workshop

TYB participated in a thoroughly enjoyable and informative workshop on podcasting with Createschool. The students learned how to create, record and present a podcast. It was a really informative and enjoyable workshop. TY A and TY C can look forward to creating their podcasts in the near future. Well done to all involved and thank you to Ms. Lee for organising.

Soccer

Senior Soccer team.jpg

Hard luck to our Senior soccer team on their first defeat of the season today against a strong Moyle Park College team.

After a close first half the teams went 2-1 at half time. We got off t a great third quarter with a second goal scored straight after half time. There was very little between the teams until 55 minutes in when we had a poor patch with Moyle Park College punishing us with two goals within five minutes. This was followed by two late goals. Credit to all players for working very hard throughout the game. Onwards and upwards to the next match.

Hurling

Junior hurling:

Junior Hrling Team v Thomastown.jpg

On Thursday the 21st the junior hurlers had their first day out in the Leinster competition playing Grennan Col. Thomastown of Kilkenny. Lack of playing time and familiarity was a big factor in the first half and the boys felt they had not done the best they could for themselves or each other. After a inspiring team talk from captain and vice captain Adam Lifely and Se Killoran the team rallied in the second half but unfortunately they still came up just short.

On Tuesday the 26th they then made the trip to Hawkfield in Kildare to play Patrician Secondary School in a must win game to keep their Leinster dreams alive for another year. The teams started strong and worked extremely hard for each other, something they had said they wanted to do considering that fire was missing in Kilkenny. Arklow went in at half time 8 points down but we could feel Patrician Secondary School starting to tire with Arklow only growing into the game. The second half had to be seen to be believed and every single one of the Arklow boys left everything out on the field coming up 2 points short in the end. The final moments saw Adam Lifely hit the post with a powerful shot that had the keeper beat but unfortunately was cleared by Patrician Secondary School. If the two games the boys have played is anything to judge for the future it is safe to say Wicklow hurling is alive and well.
