Arklow C.B.S. Guidance and Counselling Service
The role of the Guidance Counsellor is not just as a purveyor of factual data relating to entry requirements, course and college information, study skills and subject choices, although all of these come under the remit of the Guidance Department.
Counselling for all students:
The counselling service is available to any student who has concerns of a personal or school related nature. Confidentiality is assured. During their adolescent years students are deciding who they are and where they belong. They are evaluating their strengths and weaknesses, their skills and abilities. They need guidance and support as they deal with the trials and tribulations of their teenage years, as well as the academic pressures and stresses of gaining a college place or an apprenticeship. The guidance counsellor works with the Principal, Deputy Principal and Year Heads in assisting any student who may be experiencing difficulties.
In our school students receive individual and group guidance which will equip them with the skills to make informed educational and career choices. Students receive support on both an individual and group basis. Throughout the year the guidance counsellor is available to all students for personal and confidential consultation.
Arklow CBS has a person centred approach and every student is valued and is encouraged to fulfil his own unique potential. Arklow CBS places an emphasis on the holistic development of the individual and the role of the counsellor is to support and assist students as they make their way through their teenage years on the road to becoming healthy, well adjusted adults of tomorrow.
